Modibedi Studio - Bophutatswana reimagined capsule Behind The scenes

Modibedi’s first installation relaunch capsule is a meditation on memory, resistance, and imagination.

It traces its roots to Bophuthatswana, a land once envisioned as a beacon of Black excellence, yet fractured by controversy and collapse.

At its heart stands Lucas Mangope , remembered for building schools, sports academies, and Radio Bop, yet equally criticized for scandal, suppression, and his refusal to embrace a new South Africa. His legacy rests on contested ground, but the vision of self-determination endures, echoing through time.
